Blanket weed

Blanket weed, what is the best way to rid your pond of it?

Years ago you would be told the best way to get blanket weed out of a pond is a stick. Put it in and twist it, like they do with candy floss.

Then came along all manor of sticks, some looking like rakes, some with bent wire on the end...........

Then along came magnets, magnets often pop up for other cures as well

Then came Barley straw, the idea being you put a small bundle of barley straw into the pond and as it rots it gives off some chemical that kills blanket weed.

Then came extracts of barley straw, as the name implies, its extracts of the rotting barley straw.

All of the above with one exception can never be guaranteed to have 100% success rate, what may work for one person may not work for another. You may have a blanket weed free pond for years, then loads of it will grow.

Blanket weed is a plant, a pond UV can not kill it.

So what can you do?

You know what they say, the good old days? well we suggest you use a stick, its the only thing that will work 100% and its cheap.
