Connecting a pump

Connecting a pump to the electricity supply. You have built your pond, and now you want a pump and or lights, how do you do that?

As this is not an electrical website we can not go into too much detail, but basically you should have a wire armoured cable buried in the ground which is protected by an RCD

We will assume you have your cable connected but how do you connect the pump and or lights to the cable, how do you switch the lights on or off without the hassle of unplugging them?

The answer is the box on the left, this particular one is designed to accept an incoming supply via a wire armoured cable and you can connect / switch up to 3 things with out any hassle of unplugging anything.

If you would like one please visit splashbox

If in any doubt please consult a qualified electrician*

*since this article was written a new building regulation has come into force called part P

Please also remember that if you are "edging" your pool with slabs / tiles it is wise to install a conduit to bring the pump  / light cables through, so if ever you wish to upgrade the pump you can easily pull the cable out.
