Garden fountain questions Garden fountain questions are here Traffic noise I want a fountain that drowns the traffic noise, what do you suggest? Noisy fountains are usually ones that have a high / wide jet (the higher / wider usually the nosier) and have something solid for the water to land on. How ever to do achieve this means the catchment area must be twice the diameter of the jet height (see here) and the higher / wider the jet the more powerful pump is required, so be prepared to dig deep into your pocket. 22 07 06 Foaming Nozzles I brought a foaming nozzle, fitted it to my pump and i only get a dribble, not like it shows on the box, why? All nozzles require a certain amount of water to work, (also a a specific pressure) Either your pump is just not able to cope with the requirement of this nozzle or you have the outlet turned too far down, or the pump is feeding something else too. Fountain changing height Can i make my fountain change height? This can be done via a suitable pump (it must have an asynchronous motor) if you want to do it electronically, alternatively if your fountain is too high, most pumps have a flow adjuster, you can turn this down. Topping up My fountain needs topping up every few days, why, and what can i do to make it less often Fountains loose water through evaporation and "over spray". it could be either your fountain is too tall, the catchment area too small or it's too windy. see the fountain rule Light (changing) colours Can i make my pond light change colours? As most pond lights are a normal lamp (some are halogen) the answer is no. If you do want to change the colour of a lamp, you should use a coloured lighting filter, but this will mean it changes permanently to the one colour. (That of the filter) If you do want to be able to vary the colour of your lights (musical fountains do) the only way (so far) to do it is to have 5 separate lights (3 primary colours yellow, and one white) All 5 lamps should be sitting in a "cluster" so the output points in the same direction, by independently dimming each you can change the overall colour. (but its not cheap) There are colour changing light emitting diodes, but as yet they are not that bright, but i am sure this will change soon. Musical Fountain "What is a musical fountain?". A musical fountain is a fountain that changes its display (That could be number or style of nozzles running or the heights the the nozzles) in time to music. Screw on nozzle "Why do some nozzles screw on and others just push on to the pump?" Pressure. Some nozzles require less pressure than the pump is providing, screw on nozzles will stay in place since unlike push on nozzles, they can not be pushed off by the pump pressure.
