Pond pump not working

Pond pump not working? what can you do?

If your pond pump is not working, make sure it is switched on (You may be surprised to find the number of times this really is the reason)

If it is still not working, switch it off and UN-PLUG IT. Lift the pump out by its body (NEVER by its flex) most pumps will have some type of filter, either a sponge or close mesh cage, make sure this is clean, if its not rinse it in a bucket of pond water. If it now works you problem is solved, (blocked filter) if its not working please continue.

If it is clean, make sure there is no debris sitting in the impeller, some times if you have just cut the grass a few blades of grass can get sucked in and block the impeller intake. Remove any debris you may find. If it now works you problem is solved (blocked impeller intake) if its not working please continue.

Assuming the impeller is not blocked or broken  take the outlet pipe off (or what ever you have connected to the pump outlet) re assemble the pump and switch it on. If it now works you problem is solved, (blockage in the pipe which you will need to clear) if its not working please continue.

If it still does not work take it out and put it in a bucket of water and plug it in some where else (via an rcd) If it now works you problem is solved, No supply where it was. if its not working please continue.

If after you have made the above checks and it still does not work then throw it away and buy a new one. Pond pumps are sealed at manufacture There are no user serviceable electrical parts. Even if you find the cable is damaged, still throw it away, it is now dangerous.  a pond pump costs a few pounds, and can be replaced, a life is priceless and can never be replaced.
