Hiding header pool hoseIf you have the
"normal waterfall / stream with a header pool how can you disguise the
hose form your pump?
First of all you can not
fit an up turned hose tail that is drilled through the header pool base,
it may sound a good idea, (stops you seeing the hose) but the truth is if
you were to do this, you would get a fountain you don't want and soon
empty your pond. Why? because the water pressure from your pump will force
the water upwards, above the height of your header pool walls, so you will
get a fountain, as the drawing below shows

A similar thing will happen if you put it through the side too.
If you put a rock over the hose tail, you will reduce the water flow,
and also the water will shoot out in all directions, this will also happen
if you support the rock on smaller stones the water will just shoot out
from the gaps, if you use smaller stones the water will eventually push
them out of he way, bigger stones will reduce flow and not look nice.
You could consider having a "pot" with the water entering from the base
of this, but to avoid the "unusual fountain" effect you should bring the
pipe in from the rear of the pot, not the base, but who wants a pot on a
water fall?
The best way to disguise it I am sorry to say is put big stones around
it, this is ok since the hose is pointing down as it enters so the above
problems will not occur.
Mist maker
I have seen mist makers, how do they work and can i have
one in my pond?
Mist makers use ultrasonic high frequency vibrations to vibrate a small disc (s)
this disc literally atomises the water turning it into mist. Although they
look good they are not recommended for ponds with livestock

Water fall
I want to add a waterfall to my pond can i use my existing
pump?
It really depends on your existing pumps capacity, most
waterfalls are fed from the outlet of a filter, but if you want to add a
bigger waterfall I would suggest you buy a separate pump. The main reasons
are: you can turn it off at night (at night ambient noise usually
decreases, so your quiet waterfall may now sound noisy) There is no
additional "strain" on your existing pump. Do also remember that there are
pumps solely for waterfalls.

Pump differences
What's the difference between a fountain pump and a water
fall pump, and thinking about it, a filter pump?
Each pump is designed for a specific task. A fountain pump
can pump water at "high pressure" this gives impressive fountain displays.
A waterfall pump pumps large volumes at little pressure. A filter pump is
similar to a waterfall pump but it can also pump large solids with no
trouble to the filter
